To the best of her knowledge, the only issue deals with how the pipes froze. She claims that the main source of expense would be asbestos remediation, as some or all of the pipes are wrapped in asbestos. The home is 3,300 square feet and has four bathrooms - two full bathrooms (presumably on the main floor or upstairs), and two half bathrooms in the basement. 1) Would it REALLY cost $100,000 to remove old pipes, remedy any relevant asbestos, and replace them with new pipes, along with replacing the boiler? (You could build an entire brand new house for that money and have some left over! Basically you might be buying a lot, with a house that needs removing. Essentially, if it could be done up for $30-40K, it'd be worth it to me.

Mains utilities supplies are relatively new in the grand scheme of things, and the majority of older houses were built without bathrooms, running water or plumbed-in.

If you are looking at an old house, you can be sure of one thing it either has plumbing problems, or it had problems and they've been fixed.
